The Legion works with Dementia UK to provide Admiral Nurses - a service that supports the carers of our beneficiaries who have dementia. The focus of the service is to maintain independence and improve the quality of life for carers and families and to provide the practical advice they need.

The café meets on the third Thursday of the month and runs from 1030 am until 1200 noon.

Whilst all are welcome, this café will be a welcoming space for people living with dementia, their family, friends and carers.

Come along for friendship, a great cuppa and fun! (there is a nominal charge of 50p for a cup of tea/coffee) We are delighted to be running, optional, arts and craft sessions at the café for those of you who are feeling creative!

No need to book – just come along on the day.

Dinas Powys Voluntary Concern.

MEMORY CAFÉ. Held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at the Murchfield Community Centre, Sunnycroft Lane, Dinas Powys. Coffee and cake for anyone affected by early stages of dementia including family, friends and carers.

Concerts and Cakes is a series of new matinee concerts at the Memo Arts Centre, fully accessible for people living with Dementia and their carers.  The first Concerts and Cakes matinee concert is on Wednesday 16 January at 1:30pm (doors open at 1pm) Tickets for those living with Dementia are just £1, and carers go free. The concerts are also open to those who would enjoy a lovely afternoon of live music, and those tickets are £5.00.  All tickets include either a tea or coffee with a delicious slice of cake

Dementia Friendly Cinema

Memo Arts Centre, Barry - Gladstone Road, CF62 8NA Barry, Vale of Glamorgan

These relaxed film screenings are specifically tailored for people living with dementia, their carers and families. They aim to make cinema more accessible, by providing an inclusive experience, in a safe and welcoming environment. Lights are on low, volume’s turned down and a comfort break is provided towards the middle of the film. Tickets are £5 which includes a complimentary soft or hot drink with biscuit. Resident care staff go free.

Age Connect Cafe  Memories Cafe. Holton Rd. Barry

 Age Connects Cardiff and the Vales Senior Health Shop, at 38 Holton Road, Barry, are offering a weekly Memories café on each Thursday morning, 10am until 12 noon, the café will be still open to all, but with a special slant to those walking on the Dementia path. We look to provide, café, papers, games, music, adult colouring books, occasional information sessions. 


We are looking to have sessions of information and therapies such as hand massage & reflexology. We are happy to have your suggestions too, we want this time to be fun, relaxing and useful.

We will have an IT area and information desk open for those seeking support and information, and volunteers on hand to help, plus we will be booking nail cutting sessions once each month to follow the café time, this will have a cost of £13, and be done in the café area where we hope people will feel relaxed and at home and have a cuppa while they wait.

So…. for those diagnosed, and for families, friends and carers…. this is your time…. your space…. our help

FREE Games and Brain teasers  on Tablets for people to borrow in the  Memories Cafe-Holton Rd on a Thursday morning from 10am - 12 noon. Games include Solitaire,Sudoku, Colour me, Memory-box, Word Search, MemoryCards and more. Bring your own tablet and we will help you to download free games/brain teasers.  We can also support you with any queries you might have with your own computers.

Alzheimer’s Society Support for people Living with Dementia here in the Vale

The main service the Alzheimer’s Society provide for (Delete ‘younger people’) people affected by dementia in the Vale is the Ty Hapus Day support service, situated at 163 Holton Road, Barry, CF63 4HP.  Ty Hapus is an independent charity who work with the Alzheimer’s society to provide daytime respite at our homely day centre as well as well as offering activities that people can join in with. Whilst Ty Hapus was set up primarily to offer support to people who have had a ‘Young onset’ diagnosis of Dementia (diagnosed before the age of 65) we also offer support to people of any age with a diagnosis of dementia on specific days. Access to our day centre support is via referral. Individuals or professionals can make a referral direct to us.

To refer or to enquire about joining in with any of our other activities please contact the Day support manager on 01446 738024 to check availability.

On the second Monday of every month we hold a ‘drop in’ dementia café from 1.30pm – 3.30 pm. Come along for information, support, referral to other Alzheimer’s Society services or just for a cuppa and some fun.

At Ty Hapus we also have activities open to people affected by dementia and their carers to join in with,these include ‘Musical memories’ singing session, ‘sit n swing’ (seated dance), ‘Skittles at the Ty Newydd Inn’, as well as occasional art and craft sessions, As attendance numbers are limited these are not ‘drop in’ sessions but have to be booked ahead. Please feel free to contact the

Memory Cafe Peterston-super-Ely

We have recently opened a drop-in cafe for people living with dementia and their carers, to be held on the Last Wednesday of every month.  We will give a warm welcome and provide coffee tea and cake, as well as a variety of activities to all who come along. All the amenities are offered free of any charge.  We have plenty of space for cars to park, together with a building designed to enable access to everyone regardless of any difficulty.  This new building has up-to-date kitchen and toilets as well as a quiet area where carers can relax in comfort whilst their loved ones are supported by Dementia friendly volunteers
